Swim Classes West Palm Beach: New Pool Programs for All Ages

West Palm Beach recreation staff opened new group swim sessions this month at two main aquatic sites, with classes running four days a week through August 28.

The expansion comes as local residents seek low-impact exercise options during the hottest weeks of the year, when land-based workouts become harder to sustain. Named sites host varied sessions

The Flagler Drive Municipal Pool at 1001 N Flagler Drive now runs parent-toddler water play on Monday and Wednesday mornings, while the Dreher Park Pool at 2015 Summit Boulevard offers adult lap intervals and arthritis-friendly hydrotherapy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Both locations also host Saturday family relays that mix competitive and recreational swimmers. The programs operate under the West Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department, which coordinates with neighborhood associations in Northwood and El Cid to publicize schedules.

Numbers and costs show clear demand

Registration data released July 8 indicate a 28 percent increase in paid enrollments compared with the same period in 2025, with 1,142 residents signed up across all age brackets. An eight-week session costs $65 for city residents and $85 for non-residents, with scholarships covering half the fee for 180 qualifying households. Instructors report average class sizes of 12 to 15 participants, allowing individualized form corrections during each 45-minute block.

Interested swimmers can register online through the city parks portal or in person at either pool office before the next cycle begins July 20. Walk-up spots remain available for drop-in lap swims priced at $8 per visit, and staff recommend checking the daily schedule posted at the entrance to avoid peak family hours between 10 a.m. and noon.
