West Palm Beach Aquatic Centers Serve All Ages This Summer
West Palm Beach residents from toddlers to seniors are filling group swim lanes at city aquatic facilities during the peak summer season.
How we reported this
More than 1,200 people registered for structured swim programs at West Palm Beach aquatic centres by the first week of July.
July heat that regularly tops 92 degrees has pushed families and adults toward water-based exercise instead of outdoor runs or gym sessions on dry land. City recreation staff report that lap lanes and beginner classes fill within days of each opening date, a pattern that began after new session schedules posted in late May.
Programs at Two Main Sites
The West Palm Beach Aquatic Center on North Flagler Drive runs weekday morning adult stroke clinics and evening family relay events that draw residents from the Northwood and Grandview Heights neighbourhoods. Two blocks east of the Intracoastal, the Palm Beach Lakes Community Pool on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard hosts toddler splash sessions on Tuesdays and arthritis-friendly water walking groups on Thursdays, both run by the city parks department.
Both locations keep chlorinated pools at 82 degrees and maintain separate shallow areas so participants of different skill levels share the same schedule without crowding. Instructors post weekly attendance sheets at each front desk so swimmers can track progress toward the city’s summer fitness challenge.
Numbers Behind the Schedules
City budget documents show the aquatic division collected $87,450 in program fees during the first half of 2026, up from $66,200 in the same period last year. A four-week session costs $48 for adults and $32 for children, with a $10 discount for Northwood residents who show proof of address at registration. Sessions run through August 28, with makeup dates scheduled for any days lost to thunderstorms.
People who want to join can visit either pool office between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. or sign up through the West Palm Beach Parks and Recreation online portal before spaces close for the remaining July and August blocks.
